A unique opportunity to learn about ways to get paid to put conservation practices on the land is coming to Teel's Family Restaurant March 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Come and enjoy an informal "Conservation Coffee," while meeting with other agricultural producers just prior to the hectic planting season. There will be a discussion about a variety of conservation incentive programs being offered to all producers and some opportunities for those with land in the Tippecanoe River watershed.

Coffee will be provided by the Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Kosciusko, Fulton and Marshall counties.

One of the programs to be discussed is the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program. CREP is a state funded program designed to augment the USDA's Conservation Reserve Program. It provides additional funds for enrollment in certain CRP practices as well as a 40 percent increase in the FSA's weighted soil rental rate.

Staff from The Nature Conservancy - Tippecanoe River Project will be presenting program opportunities offered through their organization that are beyond the government assistance programs.

For additional information, contact Brian Pyle at the Kosciusko County SWCD office at 574-267-7445, Ext.3.

INDOOR PASTURE WALK SCHEDULED

How can a pasture walk be done indoors? The Soil and Water Conservation Districts and Cooperative Extension offices of Kosciusko and Whitley Counties have found a way and are hosting an Indoor Pasture Walk March 15, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Larwill Community Building (fire station) in Larwill.

The event will include a free meal, sponsored by Gallagher Animal Management Solutions, The CISCO Companies and Ag Plus.

The evening will provide tools, information, and insights into preparing for and implementing a grazing project. The featured speaker is Dave Robinson, Agronomist with CISCO Company, who will talk about "The Economics of Forages Versus $4 Corn."

The Larwill Community Building is located a half mile east of Larwill on the south side of US 30. Turn south on CR 650W, and follow the road as it turns west into CR 100N. The entrance to the Community Building - Richland Township Fire Station is a short distance.

Although there are no charges for the evening, an RSVP is appreciated to the Kosciusko County SWCD at 574-267-7445, Ext. 3, or the Whitley County SWCD at 260-244-6266, Ext. 3, by March 9, for meal planning.[[In-content Ad]]
