Robert P. Murphy, of Fort Wayne and previously of Warsaw, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Dupont Hospital at the age of 81.
The only son of Robert Murphy and Cora Bailey Barney, he was born on April 16, 1943, in Warsaw. On Aug. 5, 1961, Robert married the love of his life, Gayle Pechta. Together, they shared 59 years together before her passing in August of 2020.
Robert's educational journey began at Warsaw High School and culminated in earning a bachelor's degree at Purdue University. Throughout his career, Robert made significant contributions as an economic development planner and grant writer.
Additionally, Robert was known for his diverse interests and hobbies. A skilled poker player, he enjoyed engaging in friendly competition with friends and family and he loved tending to his flower garden. Robert's adventurous spirit also manifested in his love for travel, having explored various corners of the world and embarking on countless unforgettable vacations and cruises.
In the company of family and friends, Robert found true happiness. He is survived by his daughter, Erin Freimuth; grandchildren: Lindsay (Sankey) Everson, Rebecca (Connor) Sullivan and Noah Freimuth; as well as great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Archer Everson. Robert was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Gayle; son, Sean Murphy; sister, Judy Walters; and son-in-law, Stuart Freimuth.
Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted with Robert’s care. A graveside service will take place on Monday, May 6 at Oakwood Cemetery at noon. For those who plan to attend, please meet at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw, at 11:30 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery.
