Editor, Times-Union: In May 2013, a new state budget was passed with $200 million being distributed for state and local roads. This new budget ended the diversion of gas tax money to the Indiana State Police and Bureau of Motor Vehicles, freeing up $140 million annually shared by INDOT and local governments. I challenge the council members to provide information for the 2012-2013 year-end expenditures for all funds used by commissioners for highway and local roads and streets – along with year to date expenditures. How many annual miles of roads were paved? What was the cost? Justin Risner Warsaw, via email

Seems like a fair question request by Mr. Risner.
I'd like to know what year to date expenditures and how many miles of roads were paved, and at what cost.
I'd go one further: when we figure cost per mile, how does that compare to surrounding counties?
