Important To Vote

Editor Times-Union:
My mother always said, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.”  I took that to heart and have voted in every election since I turned 18.  When I was younger, it was the presidential elections that felt important, but now I know after living in Kosciusko County for the last 24 years, it’s the May primary that really counts.
I’m a little ashamed to admit this, but for some local judicial races in the past, even though I faithfully read the Times-Union, I’ve relied on Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe to decide who gets my vote.  When there is nothing that stands out between the candidates, it’s like choosing between beige and off-white.
Thankfully this year there is a distinct difference in the race for Superior Court 2.  Of the three candidates, Torrey Bauer stands out as the most qualified.  With his 23 years of full-time practice of law in Kosciusko County, Torrey has extensive criminal and civil law experience, from what I can tell, something the other candidates lack. Why does this matter?  I’ve learned courts are required to carry similar sized case loads, as all judges and staff are paid the same.  Having Torrey Bauer and his experience to deal with both  criminal and civil law cases will allow Superior Court 2 to relieve some of the burden other courts now carry by allowing civil cases to be filed there.  Resolving the backlog of civil cases and balancing the workload among the courts will make our local court system run more efficiently.  Torrey Bauer is the only candidate with a significant amount of experience in both civil and criminal law to make the changes necessary.
So in the race for Superior Court 2, experience matters and your vote matters.  Vote Torrey Bauer, Republican for judge on May 6.
If you don’t vote, I don’t want to hear it.
Sincerely,
Lori Donahoe
