Weed Isn't the Answer

Editor, Times-Union:
After reading Tyler Walley’s letter I thought I would try to clarify a few things from my original letter.
First off, I have heard old stoners quote Genesis 1:29 since I was a teenager. The Bible says Jesus turned water into wine but also says in Ephesians 5:18, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be filled with the spirit.”
You say legalizing marijuana would create revenue and decrease spending. This is just my opinion but I would think any revenue would be lost in legal battles and lawsuits not to mention the money that would need to be used for medical treatment and addiction treatment. They say occasional pot use is not seriously harmful, according to Web MD, but some of them are increased high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, munchies, slowed reaction time. It can stay in your system up to a month, which means you’re impaired for several days to weeks after getting high or stoned. Heavy users have an increased risk of lung cancer, which I saw today where Colorado is moving their smoking age to 21. Had to laugh at that one.
But marijuana is psychologically addictive. I can vouch for that. Had a friend years ago that could not go a day without it. Web MD also says the jury is out on pot being a gateway drug but it is true that pot smokers are more likely to use other drugs after trying marijuana. They estimate 30 percent of today’s teens are smoking pot. Now you can look at a study done and reported on by CBS Seattle which is simply titled “fatal car crashes involving marijuana have tripled” 2/4/2014. So under federal law marijuana is still unlawful. Another interesting thing you can look up is an article called “Stuck in a Bottle, Vodka in Russia 1863-1925.”
So you say I stuck my foot in my mouth. You can look them up yourself if you wish. I know whatever I say here is not going to change your mind. I can tell by your statement in your letter that you believe that man alone will sort out all our problems. See I think if we had more church in the state we wouldn’t have all these messes we have now. I have faith in Jesus Christ but I also don’t want to see my grandkids or anybody’s kid addicted to any kind of drug.
Now in closing I will say this: If you should find this world and pot is not working for you, find Jesus, he will never leave nor forsake you.
