Creationism

Editor, Times-Union:
Before we know it, it will be time for the close of the 2013 school year. There will be commencement time for the new graduates. How will the speakers in these events prepare them for tomorrow? We might ask how are they being prepared for today? How true it is that today is the best preparation for tomorrow.
Recently, I was shocked to read in an article how Tina Dupuy thought schools should be saved from creationism. It is quite clear that she is not aware that in education there are two curriculums. In many schools they are working with secular materials. The center of it are the students. In a recent article I read how the “Akron Elementary Helping Students Became Champions” by their principal. It is commendable that she believes: “students should develop life skills necessary to become physically fit, socially responsible and economically independent.” When we use the secular plan it is possible to guide students for these life skills. But I believe students are incomplete with only focusing on the three main categories of human needs. What about the need for students to have spiritual direction for their spirit?
That is why it is so important to use a Christian curriculum. This plan is where Christ is at the center of the teaching. With Him at the center of the studies we learn to know Him as our personal Savior and Lord. He guides us learn of His plan for our lives. As we study of Him from his word and regular school subjects we learn a Christian world view.
