Abortion Film

Editor, Times-Union:
Recently Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival featured a documentary (titled After Tiller) celebrating four “amazing” abortionists with abortionist Leroy Carhart hailed as a hero.  Major media outlets were quick to promote this movie in a positive light.  However, these major media outlets are interestingly silent at the death of one woman last week at the hands of their “hero” Leroy Carhart.
The movie was big news, but as the American Spectator reports, “now that a 29-year-old woman has reportedly died as a result of Carhart’s butchery it seems that no major news organization considers him newsworthy.”
The 29-year old woman died on Thursday, February 7 as the result of fatal complications suffered during an abortion at 33 weeks. Carhart performed the abortion at an abortion facility in Germantown, Maryland.  The woman arrived at the facility on Sunday to start the abortion process which takes place over several days.  Early Thursday morning the woman began suffering chest pain and other discomforts.  Her attempts at that time to reach Carhart were unsuccessful.  The woman was taken by her family from her hotel to a nearby hospital emergency room at approximately 5 a.m.  Efforts by the hospital staff to contact Carhart or get informational assistance from the abortion facility were unsuccessful.  The woman suffered massive internal bleeding into her abdominal cavity.  She slipped into a Code Blue condition approximately 6 times before finally succumbing to her injuries around 9:30 a.m.
Unfortunately this isn’t the first time that Carhart has botched an abortion.  In a 911 tape regarding a failed abortion he performed last year (March 31, 2012) in Nebraska, moans and screams can be heard.  Carhart was also involved in a 3rd trimester abortion death of a patient in 2005.
And it’s not just late-term abortions that are risky.  Even a first-trimester abortion can result in infection, excessive bleeding, embolism, ripping or perforation of the uterus, anesthesia complications, convulsions, hemorrhage, and cervical injury.
Abortion is legal but it certainly isn’t safe.  It is obviously not safe for the baby killed during the abortion, but as much as the media and the abortion industry would like to ignore it, abortion isn’t safe for women either. Pregnant women need support, not abortion.
