Wawasee Girls, Trio Of Warriors, Nemitz Advance
Wawasee’s girls cross country team advanced to Saturday’s regional with a fifth-place finish at the Elkhart Central Sectional at Ox Bow Park.
The boys team finished sixth overall, and the top five teams advance. The Warriors will send three runners, Luke Griner (12th place), Sam Griner (22nd) and Ben Hoffert (32nd), to the regional.

Wawasee Gets First NLC Win, Trims Memorial 31-21
Wawasee junior quarterback Tyler Smith carried the ball 23 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and classmate Noah Wadkins ran for 161 yards on 16 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns in the Warriors’ 31-21 win over visiting Elkhart Memorial.
The Warriors generated 462 yards of total offense; enough to overcome losing four fumbles and gain their first Northern Lakes Conference win of the season.

Van Wormer Gets 4 Goals In Tiger Win
Had the girls soccer sectional match between Wawasee and Warsaw been a boxing match, it would have been stopped in the first round and a technical knockout awarded to the Lady Tigers.
Warsaw senior Elizabeth Van Wormer scored three times in the first six minutes of the game, including twice in the second minute of play, as the Lady Tigers rolled over Wawasee 8-0 at the Kindt Soccer Complex Thursday evening.

Goshen Names Mascot Semifinalists
The Goshen High School/Middle School Mascot Steering Committee has announced 15 semifinalists, out of 97 submissions, for the new mascot. The “Redskins” mascot is scheduled to be phased out Jan. 1.
Semifinalists include Bulldogs, Cardinals, Crimson Storm, Dragons, Firebirds (as in Phoenix, the bird rising from ashes; not an automobile), Gladiators, Greyhounds, Griffins (head and wings of a bird and body of a lion), Grizzlies, Pride (as in a group of lions), Raptors (as in velociraptor, the dinosaur), Red Devils, Redhawks, Spartans and Wolfpack.
