ETNA GREEN - The Etna Green Town Council approved several proposed ordinances at its regular meeting Tuesday night.
Each of the ordinances concerned budget cuts. Ordinance 2009-5 was a proposal to cut the 2009 park budget by $1,840. Ordinance 2009-6 was a proposal to cut the 2009 motor vehicle and highway budget by $3,124. Ordinance 2009-7 proposed to reduce the 2009 general fund by $15,765.
The council continued discussion concerning a house mandated bill. The bill requested that town councils compile a list of jobs to be completed to boost economic growth. The council chose to continue the repairs of streets and sidewalks in 2010.
In 2011 the council would like to purchase playground equipment and continue work on streets and sidewalks.
Any remaining projects will be finished in 2012.
Town attorney Jay Rigdon brought to the council's attention the rising popularity among towns concerning the new golf cart ordinances. After several minutes of discussion the council remained undecided on the matter. Rigdon then suggested he draft an example ordinance based on other ordinances of the same matter and present it at the next meeting.
The council approved an increase in the rate to rent the Heritage Park Building and Pavilion. The change will begin on January 1, with the rate increasing from $60 to $85 for general use. Rentals intended for profitable events will be increased from $75 to $100. The pavilion rental rate will go from $20 to $25.
The rate increase was necessary because of a recent string of tenants who had trashed and vandalized the building. This, along with the current security deposit, will help cover any future problems.
