Warsaw Couple Decorate With 39 Christmas Trees

Jennifer Peryam
Times-Union Staff Writer

It's safe to say Christmas is Audie and Nancy Williams' favorite holiday.

They take decorating their home to celebrate the season seriously.

The Warsaw couple, 438 W. Clearwater Drive, decorate the inside of their home each year with 39 Christmas trees.

Each tree is artificial, themed and ranges from 2 feet to 7-1/2 feet.

Audie is in charge of putting up the trees, and his wife lights the trees and decorates them.

This year, Audie started putting up the trees Sept. 1. All the trees were put up by the week before Thanksgiving.

The Williams take the trees and ornaments down in February and March. They are stored in the couple's attic and workshop until the next Christmas.

"People tend to forget the magic of Christmas, and Christmas time for me was pretty magical growing up, and decorating our home is a way to bring back the magic for not only me, but those who visit my house," Audie said.

The trees are displayed in each of the rooms in the two-story six-bedroom home, living room, family room, bathrooms and dining room.

Audie admits their electricity bill increases, but said it is worth it.

Trees are decorated with cowboy ornaments, red, white and blue ornaments and Santa ornaments. Every tree has a minimum of 1,000 lights.

Audie said his favorite tree is a 7-1/2-foot gold tree, the first tree they purchased when they moved from Texas to Indiana.

There are 8,000 lights on the tree. It takes three days to put the tree up and put lights on, and another two days to decorate it with ornaments.

Nancy's favorite tree is a tree that is decorated with artificial grapes that sits in the dining room.

When the couple married in 1989 they had one tree. Since then, they have had as many as 50 trees displayed in their home at one time.

They have purchased trees over the years from Wal-Mart, Kmart and Lowe's, and ornaments locally as well as in other states.

The Williams also have a room decorated with village houses, a waterfall, windmill and train.

The Williams have two children, Justin, 22, and Siobhain, 19, who enjoy seeing the decorations each year.

The Williams host a Christmas party at their home each year where they invite co-workers, friends, neighbors and family. Each child that attends the party receives a stocking.

Their Christmas decorating does not stop inside their home. They also decorate outside with a sleigh and reindeer, lighted Christmas trees, and new this year are lighted arches over their driveway.
