Tree Trimmer Dies In Chipper Accident

A wood chipper accident near Hoffman Lake Tuesday claimed the life of a Plymouth man.
Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department received a call about a person possibly being pulled into a wood chipper while feeding limbs into the machine.

When officers arrived at 7511 W. Hillcrest Drive near Hoffman Lake, they discovered that an employee of Tree Core, a trimming company hired by Kosciusko REMC, had reportedly been pulled through the chipper.
The victim of the accident is believed to be James Vician, 37, of Plymouth. Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler is working to positively identify the remains.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Vician and a co-worker Brian Whitaker were trimming trees for KREMC in the Hoffman Lake area.
Whitaker was across the street when the accident occurred. When he went back to the chipper, he could not find Vician and looked into the rear area of the holding truck.
The Kosciusko County Coroner's Office advised that the incident appears to be accidental but also advised that it is still under investigation for complete, positive identification which may come later in the week.
The Atwood Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS assisted at the scene.
