Fire At Church Contained By Sprinkler

WINONA LAKE - A fire at Christ Covenant Church Sunday was contained to the room of origin of the fire with the help of the sprinkler system.

According to Ed Brown, Winona Lake Fire Dept., the call of the fire came in at 12:07 p.m. Sunday.

The estimated fire, smoke and water damage to the church, located at 2290 E. Pierceton Road, Winona Lake, is $60,000.

Brown said the fire is still under investigation and the cause is still undetermined.

Approximately 30 firefighters were at the scene. Along with the Winona Lake Fire Dept., other departments assisting include Warsaw, Claypool, Pierceton and Leesburg fire departments, Winona Lake Police Dept. and the ATF.

One firefighter suffered a sprained ankle.
