Red Ball Raises An 'Incredible' $49,000 For Local Red Cross

This year's Red Ball, "Walk the Red Carpet for the Red Cross," raised nearly $49,000 (before expenses) and is expected to gross close to $38,000 for the local Red Cross.

Co-chairs Dr. and Mrs. Larry Allen, Mr. and Mrs. David Blakemore, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Elliott and Dr. and Mrs. Dean Jansen emceed the event and presented the "Oscars®" to: Best Director, Larry Peppel, executive director of the Kosciusko County Chapter of The American Red Cross; Best Producer, Jill DeBatty, chairwoman of the Red Cross board of directors; Best Supporting Actor, Toby Buck of Paragon Medical, one of the Oscar®-level patrons of the Red Ball; Best Supporting Actress, Kim Myer; and Lifetime Achievement Award, Omer Kropf.




Prior to dinner, Al Disbro took photos of everyone in their Oscar attire, which included everything from costumes to formal wear. The photos will be mailed to attendees.

Pieces of a cake decorated with a red carpet were sold to enter the drawing for a flat-screen TV. The cake was made by DeBatty's brother, with the family-owned Concannon's Pastry Shop, Muncie.

Silent auction items sold included: Lasik eye surgery or eyelid surgery, donated by Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Grossnickle and Dr. and Mrs. Steve Grossnickle; an evening cruise on Wawasee and Syracuse lakes, donated by Larry and Fran Allen and David and Cheryl Blakemore; a Dean & DeLuca spice basket, by Jeff and Pam Thornburgh and Tom and Holly Tuttle; an original painting by nationally recognized artist Mary Grestinger; comedy and cocktails at the Wagon Wheel Theatre and Ramada Plaza; "A Star Is Born" voice lesson with Crystal Van Artsdalen, voice teacher at Grace College; and dance class at Deb Collier's School of Dance; The Casino Royale Vesper Martini, including Vesper Martini recipe and all the ingredients, and some classic James Bond movies, donated by Classic Builders and Sylvain and Allison Champoux;

Also, summer stock musical tickets for four, donated by Amish Acres, with dinner at Amish Acres Thresher's Dinner and tickets to see "Plain & Fancy" at the Round Barn Theatre; an opening night party for 12 to see "Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix" at North Pointe Cinemas, donated by Jack and Tana Birch and North Pointe; a gift bag with a Michael Kors purse, Coach sunglasses, Oscar de la Renta's Gold perfume and more, by Mike and Rebecca Kubacki and Larry and Cathy Teghtmeyer; a down-filled king-size comforter, donated by Maple Leaf Farms; two United Airline tickets and two nights in a Marriott Hotel, donated by Matt and Kristin Elliott and Tony and Sylvia Aguirre;

And. dinner at Joseph Decuis in Roanoke, by Tony and Kathy Miller; 10 hours of digital landscape design, with professional tutoring, supervision and use of equipment by Randy's Landscaping; a copy of the Super Bowl program signed by Coach Tony Dungy, donated by Matt and Kristin Elliott; a Noni-designed knitted purse handcrafted by Zoe Howard; a night at the movies for six, with hors d' oeuvres and cocktails on the patio, followed by the movie of choice in a state-of-the-art home theater at Ramsey and Cheryl Blanchard-Railsback's; and a Staxx ring set by Ruby Women's Wear;

The live auction kicked-off with the the pave diamond ring donated by Bill and Susan Allen; a day on Lake Michigan, by Omer Kropf and Mr. and Mrs. David Johnston; a custom-built children's playhouse built by Skyline Builders, Chad Lead and Tim Merchant, with materials donated by Builder's Mart and Warsaw Siding & Window; an official Colts helmet autographed by Marvin Harrison, donated by Toby Buck; a shih tzu puppy, donated by Dan and Dr. Pam Hann; and an official football autographed by Peyton Manning, donated by Matt and Kristin Elliott.

In addition to Paragon Medical, Oscar®-level patrons were Mr. and Mrs. Chandler Williams, in loving memory of Betty Morgan. Emmy®-level patrons were DePuy, Lake City Bank, Medtronic, Quality Drive-Away, Omer Kropf, Skyline Builders and Zimmer; Golden Globe® patrons were Allen's Designs, Maple Leaf Farms and the Grossnickle Foundation; Grammy® patrons were Dalton Corp., Goshen Health System, The Image Group, Jansen Orthopaedic Clinic, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kubacki, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Levin, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Niemier and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Teghtmeyer.
