In the first round of voting in Northern Indiana Burger Wars, the Kosciusko County winner fell to the eventual champ from South Bend.
The creation of The View Tavern in downtown South Bend narrowly defeated the Hoe Burger from North Webster American Legion Post 253 in matchup four of the first round, 2,826 votes to 2,805.
The South Bend burger went on beat the contender from The Lakehouse Grille, Marshall County, in round two, and from the Flippin Cow, Elkhart, in the final round, 1,897 votes to 1,117.
“So The View won and we were their toughest competition but lost in the first round by 21 votes,” said Mary Kittrell, executive director of the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It was a great event and lots of fun. We are working on a ‘burger trail’ for the county showcasing all the Burger War participants.”
Details on the tour of local hamburgers will be released later, she said.
