NORTH WEBSTER – Pageant applications are now being accepted for the North Webster Lions Club 69th annual Mermaid Festival June 25 to 28.
The early bird deadline for Queen of Lakes Pageant applications is May 3, with a fee of $100 by that date and $150 after. The scholarship pageant for girls ages 16 to 23 will be held June 28.
The deadline for Cutie King and Queen applications is June 19. The June 27 pageant is open to children between the ages of 4 and 6 as of June 1.
All Cutie contestants must participate in the children’s parade June 25, which kicks off the first day of the festival.
The Queen of Lakes Pageant is in the North Webster Community Center on Ind. 13. Contestants must arrive by 10 a.m. when judges will meet with them for interviews, and practice for the pageant will continue until dismissal for the parade.
All contestants must participate in the Mermaid Festival parade at 4 p.m. and then participate in the Queen of Lakes Pageant being judged on the theme “Return to Camelot,” with theme wear and formal gowns, at 7 p.m.
The organizational and informational meeting for the pageant is May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Tippecanoe Township Building across the street from the Mermaid Festival Grounds at the corner of Morton and Washington streets.
The Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc will provide scholarships totaling $5,000 to be awarded to the Queen of Lakes and her court. The Lioness Club will provide a $100 Community Service Award and a Miss Congeniality award. Queen of Lakes parade prize scholarships awarded by the Shoop Foundation will total $1,500.
