NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster American Legion Post 253 is hosting “Kay’s Cruise For Cancer” Saturday through Sunday to benefit the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.
According to Harry Kyler, past commander and officer at the American Legion, this is the first year the Post has put on the event.
“(The event) was named after my wife,” Kyler said. “She passed away just a year ago of cancer.”
Kyler said his wife survived cancer five times before she passed, and supporting the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund is important to members of the Legion.
“There were so many people we know that had cancer and we thought maybe we could help them out,” Kyler said.
The event, which took five months of planning, will be held at the North Webster American Legion Pavilion and begins Friday at 4 p.m. with a Junior Auxiliary bake sale. At 8 p.m. Friday, there will be music by Gunslinger.
The bake sale will continue Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. with a car and bike cruise-in following from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with prizes awarded. A poker game begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. at $10 a person.
The event also will host a corn hole contest Saturday at 1 p.m. at $20 per team with a 50 percent pay out.
Kyler said the main event will be Sunday at 11 a.m. when attendees can cruise around Webster Lake on the Dixie or follow the Dixie in their own boat in a flotilla.
Music on the Dixie will be provided by Captain Bob.
There also will be two pontoon boats, circulating to accept donations from lakers, and will collect those donations using fishing nets.
All proceeds will go directly to the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.
“Maybe we can help out someone else that is in the situation that they can’t work because they have cancer or a loved one has cancer,” Kyler said. “So maybe we can help someone else out.”
Dixie cruise tickets are available at Post 253. Cost is $20 per person and $35 per couple. The event will host raffles, vendors, barbecue food and beverages.
