Baker Youth Club Executive Director Tracy Furnivall took the ‘Cold Water Challenge’ Thursday afternoon, but with a little twist. In the challenge, participants have 24 hours to either jump into cold water or donate $100 to charity. The jumper also must challenge another person. Furnivall was challenged to make the plunge by Matt Hoskins and Josh Johnson. Instead of challenging someone else to jump into the cold water, Furnivall decided to make it a fundraiser for BYC. If $1,500 was raised, Furnivall agreed to jump in. His challenge was posted on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, and garnered 6,000 views on Facebook alone, he said. The money was raised in two days. Thursday, Furnivall met a busload of BYC children at the Center Lake pier. He thanked the contributors before jumping into the lake feet first. Once his head was above the water and he was headed toward the beach, Furnivall realized he forgot his towel in the car. ‘This just in, that is cold!’ Furnivall said while drying off. A free video of Furnivall’s jump is on the Times-Union website at www.timesuniononline.com and the Times-Union Facebook page.
