Classic rock group Blue Oyster Cult is no longer performing June 14 in Central Park for the Warsaw Parks Department’s summer concert series.
Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer made the announcement during Friday’s Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting that the group’s performance has been cancelled due to a scheduling oversight by artist management.
At its March 1 meeting, the board approved a contract for Blue Oyster Cult to perform in Warsaw June 14 at 8 p.m. at Glover Pavilion in Central Park.
Kyxx, an Anderson-based classic rock band, will still be the opener for the June 14 Classic Rock Concert and will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Central Park.
Thallemer said the city will pursue another artist to fill the performance slot.
“I am pretty confident that we can come up with an enjoyable evening for the rock concert,” Thallemer said.
Staci Young, Warsaw Parks Department recreation director, said the parks department was notified of the cancellation Thursday afternoon.
“We are obviously disappointed in this cancellation because there was a lot of excitement around welcoming Blue Oyster Cult to our community,” Young said. “This situation was out of our control and artist management apologizes for the mistake.”
Young said the parks department will explore booking the group for a future concert as scheduling allows and will work to find another artist for this year’s concert as soon as possible.
An announcement will come after new contracts are approved and signed by Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety. There is no timeframe for the announcement at this time, Young said.
A parks department recreation guide is scheduled to be inserted in the Times-Union the first week of May and will be available in the parks department office at the end of this month.
