Editor, Times-Union:
Frequently, one reads of a person who holds political office or is running for political office making a statement such as this: "I support our God-given right to own guns; and I believe that the Second Amendment to our Constitution gives us the right to own guns.”
I understand the basis of the second statement; but I do not understand the basis for the first. Where in (Christian) Scripture does God say that we human beings have the right to own weapons? Where does this idea arise? Is it simply that if it's repeated frequently enough, we'll come to believe it or convince others that it's true?
