Editor, Times-Union:
I had to respond to the letter titled “Fear God” in last night’s paper. If the writer would have dug a little farther in the word he would have found that in the book of Psalms 111 verse 10 it says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
The writer goes on to say that God rules by fear and intimidation. I ask why you would not fear God, he created the heavens and the earth and brought life to all of it, so yea, he is a mighty powerful God.
As far as intimidation goes, not so. He gave us free will to either follow him or not. His way leads to eternal life, the other leads to death and destruction. See every thing we do in this life has a positive or negative side to it. God is all loving if you seek him with your heart you will find him.
Tell you what, Joe, look deeper into that Bible with a open heart and I do believe that he will give you the answer you are looking for. I will agree with you on this much, each and every one of us should fear God. Hope you find your answer, Joe, it’s there.
