Editor, Times-Union:
This past Saturday, under a clear blue sky, nearly 100 people gathered at the Fountain Plaza in Central Park to participate in a Diversity Rally and March. Black, white, Hispanic, male, female, young, old, gay, straight, atheist and Christian, all came together in unity to embrace our differences and acknowledge that we all make valuable contributions to our community and the world, which stem from these differences. We shared a desire to listen to and learn from each other.
Those in attendance and many who were unable to attend, or learned of the rally after the fact, have expressed the desire to make this a yearly event. There are always stories to be told, lessons to be learned and victories to be celebrated. Maybe that should be the theme of next year’s rally, right alongside “We got more honks than fingers!”
