Editor, Times-Union:
About 5:30 this morning, I awakened with a song, as I often do. Sometimes it’s an “oldie” that I’ve forgotten years ago. Today, 3/15/2013, it was “It Took a Miracle.” The words go something like this:
“It took a miracle to put the stars in place,
It took a miracle to hang the world in space;
But when He saved my soul;
Cleansed and made me ‘whole’
It took a miracle of love and grace!”
I had not even thought of that old song for years! But that’s a “good one!” It reminded me of a scripture verse in I Timothy 2:2, “I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers ... be made for everyone – kings and all those in authority, that we may live quiet and peaceful lives ...”
Wow! It reminded me to pray for our leaders, in religion and politics. We may agree or strongly disagree with their policies, beliefs or thoughts, but decisions of leaders will affect all of us, directly or indirectly, for good or bad, to one degree or another, for better or worse!
Now wait a minute! Stop, please!
Question: Does God want me to pray for His will to be done in the lives of people who don’t belong to my denomination/party/family? The answer is yes! Read and re-read I Timothy 2:1-6. I had to read the verses several times before it got through to me! Yes, I have two degrees after high school. “Seek and ye shall find!” (Matthew 7:7).
