Virginia M. “Ginger” Powell, 87, passed away at 5:40 p.m. July 8, 2014, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
She was born May 23, 1927, in Atwood, to Walter B. and Agnes Harmon Smith. On April 18, 1948, in Atwood, she married Jack Nelson Powell, her husband of 66 years, who survives in Leesburg.
She was a 1945 graduate of Atwood High School. She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. She and her husband owned and operated the Clunette General Store for many years after which she was employed by Peoples State Bank in Leesburg for 40 years before retiring in 2000.
She was a member of the Clunette United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. She loved playing bingo and was a regular fixture at many games around Warsaw. She enjoyed knitting baby afghans and has made approximately 100 since retiring.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas (and spouse Deborah) Powell, Warsaw, and Michael (and spouse Joan) Powell, Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren: Andy (and spouse Kate) Powell, Cincinnati; Kevin (and spouse Melanie) Powell, Jasper; Kate (and spouse Justin) Hickey, Columbus, Ohio; six great-grandchildren: Jack, Ben, Carson and Callie Powell; Seth and Ryan Hickey; and a brother, Jerry Smith, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ned Smith, who died April 1, 2006; two sisters, Margaret Williamson, who died Jan. 12, 2002, and June Longerbaugh, who died June 6, 2011.
Services will be at 11 a.m. July 19 at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, New Beginnings Community Church, Atwood, officiating. Burial is in Leesburg Cemetery.
