Shirley Walgamuth, 72, Leesburg, passed away July 23, 2014, at her residence.
She was born July 11, 1942, in Chesterton, to Ray and Mary Yeiter Abell. She was married to Glenn Tracy Martinsen, who preceded her in death in 1979. In 1989, she married Arden Walgamuth, who also preceded her in death in 2009.
She was a lifelong area resident. She retired from the purchasing department at DePuy. She had attended the North Webster Church of God as well as the Aboite Lutheran Church.
She was an incredible mother and grandmother who shared her love of gardening, travel, camping and entertaining with family and friends. She had a knack of making every meal a special event with her homemade ice cream for dessert. She excelled at anything related to crafts, including sewing and woodworking. She regularly donated felted wool hats that she made with loving care to local cancer centers. She enjoyed fishing as much as she could, learning how as a young girl with her father. She was active with the local Gideons International Auxiliary. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her family so much and it was a gift to have her as such an important part of our daily lives.
Surviving are her daughter, Tracy (and spouse Craig) Williams, Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Kristin (and spouse David) Prior, Shelburne, Vt., and Dr. Mary (and spouse Gary) Baker, North Webster; three grandchildren; a sister, Jackie (and spouse Gary) Harvey, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Sue Abell, Centersville, Va. She also was preceded in death by her two brothers, William and Terry Abell.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial is in Stoney Point Cemetery, Clunette.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
