Joseph James “Jody” Verteramo Jr., 57, Austin, Texas, died at 10:40 a.m. July 29, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1956, in Brownsville, Texas, to Joseph James Sr. and Gloria Egly Verteramo.
He was a 1975 graduate of  Peru High School, and received an associate’s degree at the University of Texas.
He entered the U.S. Air Force Jan. 27, 1976, in San Antonio, Texas. Senior Airman Joseph James Verteramo Jr. was honorably discharged June 5, 1979, from Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas.
He lived most of his life in Texas. He loved teaching school and reading. He enjoyed helping people, was an avid writer and he loved his family.
Surviving are a daughter, Teresa M. Verteramo, Warsaw; his parents, Warsaw; a sister, Cristina Campbell, Fort Wayne; a brother, John M. Verteramo, Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Agnes Verteramo, and Victor and Harriett Egly.
A mass of Christina burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, with Father Phil DeVolder of the church officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126. Burial is in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Calling is one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
