Eugene C. Brown, 86, Warsaw, passed away at 1:30 p.m. July 7, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Warsaw, to Everett and Myrtle Lynch Brown. In 1952, in Boston, Mass., he married Irene Franchitto, who died Oct. 27, 1998.
A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, he served the country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class with the 8th Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1946 to 1947. He began work for the Warsaw Police Department in 1957, serving for 22 years and retiring as captain in 1979. He also held the rank of detective sergeant, detective lieutenant and then captain. He was a probation officer for 18 years, retiring as chief probation officer. He also worked for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department as a transport driver from 1997 to 2000.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, and the Elks Club and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #49, Warsaw.
Surviving are three sons: Ed Brown, Warsaw; Joe Brown, Goshen; and Louis “Bill” Brown, Demotte; his daughter, Christine Slone, Warsaw; his sister, Mary Neff, Payne, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, one grandson and two sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with the Rev. Roy Blake officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126, Warsaw, and Military Funeral Honor Guard.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
