MENTONE – Donald A. Stephenson, 69, rural Rochester, died at 6 a.m. March 24, 2014, at his residence after being ill since last July.
He was born June 25, 1944, in Princeton, to Coen E. and Marie Carwile Stephenson. On April 21, 1990, in Plymouth, he married Verna R. Weiger, who survives.
He graduated from Milford High School in 1962. Then he served his country in Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Rochester and the American Legion in Bourbon.
He was a supervisor for Lau Industries of Rochester, retiring at the age of 62. He also had worked for Reynolds Metals in Bourbon. He enjoyed working outside, which included mowing yard and gardening. He also liked to fish.
Also surviving are a son, Donald Stephenson Jr., Kaw City, Okla.; three stepchildren: Angela, Chris (and spouse Linda) and Rodney (and spouse Sherri); three grandchildren, Coen, Ethan and Evan; four stepgrandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Jessica and Bailey; a brother, Wade Stephenson (and companion Linda), Rochester; his mother-in-law, Ilean Rose Weiger, Tippecanoe; a sister-in-law, Vicki Brockey, Tippecanoe; and his Springer Spaniel companion, Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Warren Stephenson.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mentone Cemetery with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating, with military rites performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
Services are entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
