AKRON – Arlene S. Gearhart, 91, Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, and formerly of Akron, died at 12:20 p.m. Aug. 21, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born May 28, 1923, in Nappanee, to Fred J. and Vera Stahly Holloway. On April 7, 1950, in Akron, she married Gerald D. Gearhart, who preceded her in death July 3, 1999.
She was a homemaker, assisting her husband on their dairy farm. She was a graduate of Burket High School. She was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed crocheting for family, making potholders for friends, flowers, reading, socializing with everyone at Timbercrest, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Gearhart, Akron; two sons, Dennis (and spouse Trillia) Gearhart, Akron, and Timothy (and spouse Diane) Gearhart, Macy; a sister, Rozella Tinkey, Akron; a foster brother, Terry Weed, Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren: Amy Wildermuth, Wesley Gearhart, Lisa Hunt, Rebecca Martin, Mark Gearhart, Ashley Craft, Cory Gearhart, Emily Gearhart; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Pauline Ryman; a sister, Betty Meredith; and two brothers, Wade and Carlyle Holloway.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Erin Huiras officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake.
