SOUTH WHITLEY – The Manchester girls tennis team remained undefeated in Three Rivers Conference play on Tuesday with a 4-1 win at Whitko.

The Lady Squires moved to 6-3 for the season and 4-0 in TRC action.

The No. 1 singles match between Manchester’s Kelsey Eichenauer and Whitko’s Jackie Werstler was decided in three sets. Eichenauer took the first set 6-1, but Werstler bounced back. She won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to claim the match and only victory for the Lady Wildcats.

Eichenauer had a 4-1 lead in the final set, but allowed Werstler to win five straight games to claim the victory.

The Lady Squires’ Halle Briner won in demanding fashion at No. 2 singles. She cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories. Lydia Little won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

“Lydia and Halle found the right balance of consistency and placement to easily win their matches tonight,” said Manchester coach Joel Eichenauer. “I was impressed by the way they remained focused and in control.”

Manchester’s No. 1 doubles pair of Eva Bazzoni and Kendra Auler jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set. Whitko’s Blair Creamer and Lilly Owsley tacked on two more games but fell 6-3 in the opening set.

Bazzoni and Auler were 6-2 winners in the second set.

At No. 2 doubles, Manchester’s Lauren Metzger and Rebekah Pyle won 6-1, 6-2 over Katherine Ousley and Izzy Rayner.

“I thought both doubles teams won the important points,” said Eichenauer. “Metzger and Pyle clearly outstroked Whitko while Auler and Bazzoni showed their athleticism.”

The Lady Squires host Huntington North today at 4:30 p.m.

Whitko is in action again Saturday in the Tony Wright Memorial Invitational in Angola.
