ROCHESTER — The Penn girls golf team won Saturday's Rochester Invitational at Round Barn Golf club at Mill Creek by shooting a 341 on the par-72 course, with Wawasee finishing third with a 360.
Also from the area, Manchester shot a 424 to place 11th at the 16-team event, while Tippecanoe Valley was 14th (508) and Whitko was 16th (529).
From Wawasee, Elizabeth Jackson had the low score of 83, followed by Mikala Mawhorter’s 84, Kylee Rostochak’s 96, Aubrey Schmeltz’s 97 and Kamryn Foy’s 108.
The Manchester Lady Squires were led by Claire Barnett's 93, followed by Lydia Little's 103, Gabbi Wilcox's 112, Erin Working's 116 and Madison Hire's 138.

Saturday in New Haven
The Warsaw girls golf team finished fourth at Saturday's 18-team New Haven Invitational. Held at New Haven's Whispering Creek Golf Club, Leo won the tournament with a 350, followed by East Noble (363), Carroll (366), Warsaw (373) and Fort Wayne Canterbury (374), rounding out the top five. Individually, South Adams' Sydney Willis was the medalist with a 77 on the par-72 course, while Warsaw's Alexis Manwaring carded an 85, placing seventh overall. The Warsaw Lady Tigers begin Northern Lakes Conference competition Tuesday at Elkhart Memorial.

At Saturday's Mishawaka Invitational, the Triton boys tennis team went 2-0, defeating South Bend Adams 5-0 and Mishawaka Marian 4-1. On the day, Triton's No. 1 singles player Jared Fisher won 6-2, 6-3 against Adams' Matt Stoner, then defeated Marian's David Hicks in the three sets, 4-6,6-3, 6-0. Triton's No. 1 doubles team of Austin Sellers and Spencer Glingle also went 2-0, defeating Adams' Will Kline and Cary Thomas 6-1, 6-1, then Marian's Zac Ericson and Cameron Rafinski 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. For the Manchester Lady Squires, they started out with losses to Danville (25-21, 25-15) and Elwood (25-19, 25-18), but came back to down Southern Wells (25-16, 25-17) and Lewis Cass (25-7, 25-11).  Wawasee also defeated Lewis Cass (23-25, 25-14, 15-6), as well as Tipton (25-13, 25-12), but lost to Mississinewa (25-18, 19-25, 15-9) and Danville (17-25, 25-23, 15-11) Wawasee will be at Lakeland today and Manchester is off until Thursday's home match against Whitko.

The Manchester varsity football team opened its season with a 27-13 home win over Mississinewa Friday. Avenging a 57-13 loss in the previous season, Manchester was actually outgained 351-237 in the game, but forced three turnovers on down, while also recording a fumble and getting an interception. Offensively, running back Jacob Casper had 94 yards and a score on 14 carries, while also taking a kickoff return 82 yards for a score. Manchester quarterback Lucas Schilling completed 12 of 18 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown to Bailey Ness, who had 60 yards on four receptions. Linebacker Thad Miller also recorded 12 tackles in the win and Daniel Griese had an interception. The Squires are at home again this Friday, hosting Bluffton.
