HUNTINGTON — The Warsaw baseball team extended its losing streak to five with Thursday night’s 16-9 defeat at Huntington North.
Falling behind 3-0 after one inning, Warsaw plated four in the top of the second, only to see Huntington North knot it at 4-4 in the bottom of the frame.
The host Vikings jumped in front 9-4 with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Tigers bounced back with four in the top of the fifth, closing within 9-8.
However, Huntington North put things away with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Huntington North finished the game with 16 runs on 16 hits, including eight for extra bases.
For Warsaw, it hammered out 13 hits, lead by Caleb Heckaman’s 3-for-4 day, including two RBIs and a double.
Also for Warsaw, Justin Oberlin, Caleb Moneyheffer, James Brandes and Peter Shepherd each had two hits.
The 8-9 Tigers host Goshen today in a Northern Lakes Conference game.

Brycelyn Garbison got the win for Triton, striking out seven, while joining Hallie Zimmerman with two hits and two RBIs. The Lady Trojans return to Northern State Conference play Monday at home against Bremen.

Taking on a potential sectional opponent on the road Thursday, a short-handed Manchester girls tennis team fell 4-1 at Peru. Playing without four varsity players due to a dance recital, Manchester’s lone victory came at No. 3 singles, where Micheala Pattison won 6-2, 6-1. Manchester is now 9-4 going into Monday’s Three Rivers Conference match at Tippecanoe Valley.

The Triton girls tennis team picked up a Northern State Conference home win Thursday, downing Jimtown 3-2. Triton won on both No. 1 courts, as Kaelyn Mason was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at singles and the doubles team of Holly Stogsdill and Carrie Slabaugh won 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3. Triton’s Shayla May also won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The result finishes Triton’s NSC season at 4-2, good for third place overall. The Lady Trojans host South Bend Riley, Monday.

The Manchester boys track and field team finished second at Thursday’s Wabash County Meet in North Manchester. Wabash won the meet with 156 points, followed by Manchester’s 118, Northfield’s 111 and Southwood’s 80. From Manchester, Colin McNeeley won the 100 (11.79) and 200 (24.02), while Matthew Fahs-Brown (3200), Brodi Carter (110 hurdles) and Gary Blevins (shot put) also picked up first-place finishes. Manchester now prepares for the Three Rivers Conference Championships at Tippecanoe Valley, Thursday.
