WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Community Concert Association kicks off its 2014-15 season with “An Evening with Rebecca & Kuba.”
The concert will be Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium, 900 Park Ave., Winona Lake.
According to information provided by LCCA, “Rebecca Lowe and Kuba Kawnik met on Silversea Cruise’s Silver Whisper in 2003. While both were musical artists on the ship, their backgrounds couldn’t have been more different. Kuba came from Poland with a classical and jazz musical education and Rebecca was a Texan living in Los Angeles with a penchant for singing and acting in musical theater.”
Soon after returning from their time on the cruise, their friendship turned professional, according to the release. With successful solo endeavors under both their belts, they decided to the unthinkable: a variety show with country, jazz, show tunes and classical music.
Individual concert tickets are $20 at the door. Subscriptions for all five of the shows in the 2014-15 season are $45, a savings of $55. Children 18 years old and younger may attend free when accompanied by an adult member. A 10-percent discount is available for groups of 20 or more individuals.
All concerts will be at Rodeheaver Auditorium except for the Dec. 14 Fort Wayne Philharmonic Holiday Pops Concert at 2 p.m. at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.
The concert on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. will be the Mossburg Strings. From Fort Wayne, The Mossburg Strings are the five oldest children in their family. They enjoy playing a wide variety of music.
Coming Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. will be the Purduettes.
“Celebrating music of all genres with a vast repertoire including pop, classical, contemporary, country, swing, patriotic, Broadway, gospel and jazz, this multi-talented troupe of women represents the brightest and best from a variety of majors and areas of study,” according to the LCCA information.
The last concert of the season will be Cornet Chop Suey March 27 at 7:30 p.m.
The jazz band “has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity since its arrival on the jazz scene in 2001. Best known for a wide variety of styles, Cornet Chop Suey applies its own exciting style to traditional jazz, swing, blues and ‘big production’ numbers. Every performance by Cornet Chop Suey is a high-energy presentation and is always a memorable experience for the audience,” according to the information.
