Recently, first-graders from Harrison Elementary School visited Martin’s Supermarket to learn about the nutritional value of various fruits and vegetables and the services that the store provides to the community. While there, they also discovered more about Martin’s environmental and recycling programs. Students brought their own money on the trip so they could use their role as consumers to purchase items for donation to the WCS Boomerang Backpacks program. The Boomerang Backpacks program helps provide nutritious snacks for students each weekend when school meals are not available. Pictured are Harrison Elementary first-grade students, their teachers, WCHS Boomerang Backpacks student representatives and Tracey Akers, WCS head nurse and sponsor of the Boomerang Backpacks program.
