Indiana Department of Education released the SAT scores for 2009 this week.

While the average composite SAT score dropped two points to 1483 for Indiana students, local public school corporations saw a mixed bag in their scores.
A local private school, Lakeland Christian Academy, surpassed the public schools this year in every category, though they had far less students taking the SAT.

The SAT has three categories, including reading, math and writing. The mean score is obtained by adding all the scores together and dividing by the number of students who took the test. The total score possible on the SAT is 2400.

Reading, math and writing scores for Tippecanoe Valley High School for 2009 were 497, 478 and 506 respectively. Ninety-three Valley students took the SAT this year, up from 66 in 2008 and 84 in 2007. Valley's mean scores in 2008 were 503, 494 and 527; and 458, 455 and 442 in 2007 respectively.

Warsaw Community High School saw its SAT scores go up across the board in 2009 over 2008. With 251 students taking the SAT, reading, math and writing scores were 502, 516 and 486 in 2009. In 2008, there were 266 students who took the SAT, resulting in mean scores of 495, 507 and 473. In 2007, 248 students took the SAT, with mean scores of 500, 519 and 477.

Triton Junior-Senior High School has seen an increase in the number of students taking the SAT over the past three years. In 2009, 42 students took the test compared to 38 in 2008 and 33 in 2007.

Triton's 2009 SAT mean scores were 468 for reading, 508 for math and 455 for writing. In 2008, the mean scores were 483, 504 and 472; and were 511, 516 and 481 in 2007.

SAT scores at Wawasee High School dropped in 2009 from 2008, though 126 students took the SAT in 2009 and 2008. There were 131 students who took the test in 2007.

The 2009 mean scores for Wawasee were 458 for reading, 478 for math and 450 for writing. In 2008, the scores were 485, 501 and 475 respectively; and 486, 494 and 471 in 2007.

Whitko High School scores improved in reading and math in 2009 over 2008, but dropped by one point in writing. The 2009 scores were 500 in reading, 513 in math and 493 in writing; while the 2008 scores were 491, 494 and 494; and the 2007 scores were 491, 502 and 490.

Manchester High School had SAT mean scores for the class of 2009 of 484 in reading, 530 in math and 473 in writing. In 2008, the scores were 504, 521 and 482; and in 2007 were 486, 515 and 481.

Lakeland Christian Academy had 16 students taking the SAT in 2009. The reading mean score was 531; math was 523; and writing was 521. In 2008, LCA had 22 students taking the test, with 11 test takers in 2007. Mean scores for 2008 were 545, reading; 518, math; and 497, writing. In 2007, scores were 585, 522 and 551 respectively.
