  • Parrots Of The Caribbean Singin’ In The Rain
Starting a little sooner than the scheduled 7 p.m. showtime Friday, Parrots of the Caribbean, a Salute to Jimmy Buffett got a half hour show in before the rains fell. The band kept performing – though some of the audience fled the downpour – and invited everyone to get a little closer to the stage to try and stay dry. The concert in the Glover Pavilion was a kickoff for the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series and to the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival this weekend. The couple of hundred people who made it out to the free concert enjoyed the music of Buffett, songs by bands Buffett influenced and even a little Led Zeppelin. The next artist to perform as part of the Summer Concert Series will be country musician Kari Lynch at 7 p.m. Friday in the Central Park Plaza.
  • Foreman Remembered
Relatives of James L. Foreman, a sergeant in the U.S. Army who was killed in action 50 years ago this month, gathered in Warsaw recently to remember his sacrifice. Foreman was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations in Vietnam. The monument seen in the picture was first placed in Indianapolis, but later relocated to the Warsaw Municipal Airport. Pictured (L to R) are Andrew Popenfoose, a great-nephew; Toby Popenfoose, a nephew to James; Timothy Popenfoose, a great-nephew; Brent Fifer, son; Cindy Fifer, a great-nephew; Mike Foreman, brother; and Ann Popenfoose, a sister.
